The Radcliffe Camera, Oxford, England for Tolkien Reading Day It's Tolkien Reading Day! For Tolkien Reading Day, we're featuring Oxford University's Radcliffe Camera, home to the world's largest archive of J.R.R. Tolkien's original manuscripts and drawings. While Tolkien never worked in the Radcliffe Camera (Latin for 'room'), he both studied here at Oxford (graduating in 1915 with first-class honors in English language) and taught here as a professor of Anglo-Saxon and later as a professor of English language and literature. During his years at Oxford, Tolkien wrote 'The Hobbit' and its sequel, 'The Lord of the Rings', along with other books and research. In 2003, the Tolkien Society organised the first Tolkien Reading Day to celebrate and promote the works of Tolkien. They selected March 25 since it was the day that the Dark Lord Sauron was defeated, and the Black Tower destroyed in the 'Lord of the Rings'.

The Panna Meena Ka Kund stepwell in Jaipur is a classic example of the beautiful geometric architecture used to produce them. Most stepwells also feature shaded side chambers where locals (primarily women) can gather to escape the heat of the day. In this image, one can see obvious signs of previous high-water marks on the well’s walls as seasonal fluctuations and the changing climate affect water levels throughout the region.

Conwy Castle illuminated at night, Conwy Happy St David's Day! We’re celebrating St David’s Day here on the north coast of Wales in the spectacular walled town of Conwy. For more than seven centuries, Conwy Castle has towered over its narrow streets, against the mountainous skyline of Snowdonia. In its heyday it would have been white – lime render can still be seen on the walls – but even in its darker state it makes quite the impression, soaring out of a natural rock formation at the mouth of the River Conwy. Climb its battlements and you will be treated to sweeping views of the mountains, the sea, Conwy itself and the castle’s roofless Great Hall. You’re never too far from a castle in Wales – there are around 600 of them, many of which will be flying the Welsh flag on St David’s Day. Other ways to celebrate Wales’s patron saint include wearing a daffodil or a leek, the country's national emblems, taking part in parades, concerts or simply feasting on Welsh cakes, ...

In 1988, a surprising secret was discovered when a new shopping mall was built in the city of Cartagena.  The remains of this ancient Roman theater have been found buried underground and have been hidden there for centuries, part of which is covered by the city's ancient cathedral and rest area.  Since then, the theater has been carefully restored and completed in 2003.  In addition, the theater can accommodate 6000 audiences at a time.  (© Luis Davilla / Getty Images)

Temple of Saturn in the Roman Forum, Italy. The temple is built in the honor of Saturn which is standing in the East corner of Rome. The eight gigantic pillars stand tall and represent the ancient tales of gods and imperial period. The mythical Saturn is one of the pioneer figure of Roman Religion. He was worshiped and adorned in the 5th BC in a festival called Saturnalia which started at 17th December and lasted for many days. It was the most joyous festivals among the others as it provided freedom to the slaves, people wore informal clothes instead of toga wears and then there were partying and merrymaking thing that made it different.
