Migratory birds are reliable frequent flyers who set off at the same time each year to fly approximately the same distance.  In search of food and water sources, the birds often fly long distances to reach breeding areas or wintering places.  Today is an important stopover for migratory birds: Lake Salton, the largest lake in California. This shallow salt lake was formed when a dam broke in 1905 and the Colorado River flowed into an approximately 56 km long basin with extensive salt deposits.  Today it attracts hundreds of bird species in what is considered one of the most important concentrations of bird life in mainland America. Most of these birds are only passing through and migrate along the north-south route known as the Pacific Flyway.  They gather there, sometimes in millions, to feed and gain strength before moving on.  Some birds, like the heron pictured...

Tree frog on a flower, Lake Kissimmee, Florida, USA The charming prince?  Charming princess, rather.. Perched on the petals of a Nymphaea, on Lake Kissimmee in Florida, we thought this little frog quite interesting to watch.  In the United States, these little amphibians are celebrated during the month of the frog which pays homage to all the frogs in the world, which represents no less than 4,000 species!  Among the different kinds of frogs, this little tree frog is favored by most of us, no doubt because of its small size, funny face and the fact that it requires very little attention.  Some of the American gardens are populated by it and it is even the official reptile of Louisiana and Georgia!  A star frog, what.

It's a serene sight of Tokyo, where you can see cherry blossom everywhere these days.  Its the start of spring and its the best season to visit Japan, especially Tokyo.  Chidorigafuchi Park  is filled with these cherry blossoms and so with people who come from all around the world just to gaze the loads and loads of these trees, laden with pink, white  and  purple  hanami   ( cherry  blossom).  There are more than 150 types of cherry blossoms, bloom here but survive only for a short period of time. When you come here, have a stroll in the enchanting gardens, inhale the fresh air that is filled with hope, love and beauty. Rent a boat and enjoy a long rowing session with your love ones. Today is “Hina Festival”. “Hina Doll” It is a spring festival originally transmitted from China as "Kami". I t is called "peach festival" because it is performed at the time when peach blossoms bloom ... Originally, before the Heian period (almost 1,000 years back), it was performed regardless of gender in the same way as the Dango festival, but it gradually became a girl's festival. The custom of this day is to display dolls on a red carpet. The dolls with dresses of Emperor and Empress are placed at the top and the ladies with ministers are in lower rows of the shelf. It is said that the ebb and flow of the evil to the dolls and the doll play of the girls were linked. The Japanese are a bit superstitious here. They believe that if you're a girl and fail to take the dolls out of the shelf right after the festival, no one is going to marry you for a long period of time.  So hurry up girls!  Put the dolls away! Saguaro cactus flowers, Coronado National Forest, Arizona, USA The desert blooms Spring may yet to have sprung here in the UK, but across the Atlantic, in the US state of Arizona, the Sonoran Desert is coming into wildflower season. Soon the big daddy of the cactus world – the saguaro – will start to bloom. This amazing succulent is the largest cactus in the United States (it can grow higher than 50ft and weigh several tonnes, when it’s fully hydrated). It can also live more than 100 years and will grow arms as it ages, creating that classic cactus profile associated with the desert and the Wild West. Its flowers are short-lived, typically blooming at dusk and remaining open only until the following morning. They form at the top of the plant and the tips of branches and are striking enough to be honoured as Arizona's state flower. They’ll go on to produce a red, edible fruit that will ripen by July.
