A Party At Siesta

Image
Aerial view of Siesta Beach, Siesta Key, Florida Fiesta at Siesta Here we are in mid-March already, the time of year when American college-aged revellers invade the world's beaches, like this one on Florida's Siesta Key. Located in Sarasota County off the state's western shore, the island beach is a fixture on lists of America's top beaches, a standout even in a state where soft, welcoming sands compose over half the 1,900-kilometre coastline. Using the onset of spring in the region as an excuse to cut loose is nothing new, going back at least to the ancient Greeks and Romans. But spring break as we know it (a holiday period during early spring at American universities and schools) originated in the 1930's, when Fort Lauderdale began welcoming college swim teams for training. In March 1961, over 50,000 young people vacationed in the city. By the '70s, rising prices and increasing consternation of locals began driving the party from Fort Lauderdale t...

Stubben Alberg, Austria This historic ski resort is Stubben Alberg, and the view of the village may be similar to what you imagine when reading "Historic Alpine Village".  Near the Alberg pass, this Austrian village is a must for ski enthusiasts.  This is also the birthplace of ski instructor Schneider, whose methods and skills spread throughout the world in the 20th century.

Croatia— Heaven On Earth

Image
Aerial of Dugi Otok island in Croatia It is also called Croatia's 'Long Island', Dugi Otok is indeed worthy of the nickname: At 27 miles long and three miles wide, it's one of the largest islands in the Adriatic Sea . Part of the serrated group of archipelagos off the Dalmatian coast, Dugi Otok is home to a number of small towns in the east and a scenic nature park, Telašćica , in the south. Our view here captures the contrast between the jade waters of Mir salt lake on the left and the sparkling cobalt blue of the Adriatic Sea on the right. ( © Amazing Aerial/offset)

Trimurthi Sadashiva (Three Faced Shiva)

Image
Elephanta Island caves near Mumbai, Maharashtra. Take a step into Elephanta Caves It's the day leading up to Maha Shivratri, we take you to the UNESCO world heritage site of the Elephanta Caves. A short ferry ride away from Mumbai’s Gateway of India takes you to Elephanta Island, where the caves, dating back to the 2nd century BCE depict various forms of Shiva and Parvati, as well as some Buddhist stupas. Most of what you see at the caves is carved out of solid basalt rock. The 20-foot Trimurthi Sadashiva (Three faced Shiva) is the most prominent carving, while Natraj (God of dance) and Yogishwara (God of Yoga) are also celebrated attractions on Elephanta Island. Magical Place On Magical Earth

Image
Walk through a mountain top in Chamonix, France Where is this magical place?  Walk through a mountain top in Chamonix, France Aiguille du Midi in eastern France is one of many peaks in the Mont Blanc massif, an Alpine range that stretches across the border into Italy and Switzerland. In 1909, an aerial tramway was proposed to take tourists from Chamonix, the valley town below, to the top of Aiguille du Midi – a plan finally realised in 1955. The cable cars and viewing platform were upgraded most recently in 2012, and a new feature called ‘Step into the Void’ was added. It allows tourists to stand in a glass room jutting out from the mountain. ( © Jakub PoÅ‚omski / Offse )
