A Promising Ode To The Sun
Sun Traveler sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason in Reykjavik in Iceland
Icelandic sunrise. Ode to the Sun
This amazing structure is installed on the north shore of Reykjavik and is oriented towards Mount Esja. Although it is more reminiscent of a Viking ship or a skeleton of a fish, the sculptor, Jón Gunnar Árnason, created the Sun Traveler (Solfar in Icelandic) with the image of a boat in mind dream and an ode to the Sun. The artist was inspired by migratory movements from Mongolia to Iceland, a few hundred years ago. For him this boat "symbolizes the promise of virgin lands and a new life".
